Pantry FX: free, from your kitchen

When our shop had to close during COVID in April 2020, we started Pantry FX: a free video series showing how to make realistic special FX wounds with ingredients from your own kitchen.

Giving back is part of who we are, so the whole series is still free. Start with blood and wax, then use them to build the wounds.

    Which fake blood?

    • Stage Blood: our most popular, all-round consistency, similar to golden syrup.
    • Coagulated Blood: perfect for filling wounds, as it's less likely to drip.
    • Squirt Blood: our runniest, for dripping, spattering and squirting.

Light bloods are generally used for shallow wounds, and dark blood for deep cuts. The deeper the cut, the deeper the colour.

    Special FX FAQs

    Will fake blood stain?

All fake bloods, whatever the brand, may stain skin and will stain clothing. Our Stage Blood washes off skin with soap and water, but test it on clothing first.

Can I use fake blood in my mouth?

Our FX Stage Blood is made from non-toxic ingredients, so it can be used in and around the mouth. Don't use it in or around the eye area.

Should I use light or dark blood?

Light bloods are generally used for shallow wounds, and dark blood for deep cuts. The deeper the cut, the deeper the colour.

Do I need glue for FX Wax?

No. FX Wax is sticky, so it stays on skin without adhesive. For longer wear, apply it over latex and seal it with more latex.

How do I remove FX Wax?

Scrape it off, then use oils to clean away what's left.

How do I use FX Gel safely?

Melt it in the microwave in 3 to 5 second bursts. Don't boil it, and check the temperature before it goes on skin.

    Where can I get advice?

    Call us on 0800 263 939 or email shop@bodyfx.co.nz.

    Moulage for medical training?
